Greetings to one and all /a/holes, whether you're one of the few who still stick around here, or even if you just stumbled in. Hey, it's New Year's Eve, stumbling is pretty much par for the course. Anyways...
If you go a few pages in on this board, you'll see last year's pathetic excuse for wasting 7's bandwidth. It will be annoying, it will set off some of the grammargestapo of other places.
Yes, I am looking across Chan Avenue. But this isn't there, if you don't like it, go back already.
This is my annual screed about the state of /a/nime as I watched in 2K17. My taste generally sucks. I'm a seinen fan. And this year started pretty hot, but damn, did it ever slack off as the year went on. A bit too late, but I know, this will be lots of tl;dr.
heh. Pic related, though not pertinent, as it's from '14. AOTY for me then.

Hmm, how to say how the shows watched from the year declined in numbers? 12 shows finished (dropped 3) in Winter; 9 shows finished (3 dropped) in Spring; 13 finished (4 dropped) in Summer; and 9 finished (2 dropped) in Autum. There were a few longer shows that stretched 2 seasons.
I did enjoy Ballroom Y Yokoso, but why I actually sat through Enmusubi no kawaii Kitsune-chan, I don't know. Thas show made less sense than I do.
This year had a bunch of shows I wonder why I watched.
Though senselessness does have it's up side. There was the Yuyushiki OVA.

Dammit. /b/ is traying to heist my attention. They must not know that I don't need a long attention span. This year's shorter shows proved that.
If it's short in time, and has stupid/cute included, it was worth my 3 to 6 minutes.

....and sometimes, stoopidity only helps, especially the violence when necessary. When dealing with bakas, you need any means possible.

Then again, there were some shows that got a little too serious for their own good. I mean, at least nothing pulled a Kanojo ga Flag kind of whiplash, but Made In Abyss got pretty close. Battle Girls Academy seemed to lack something, but I still watched.
I actually sat through all of Fukumenki Noise. I think that was made for me alone (though I never asked for it), as I don't remember anyone anywhere say a damn thing about it. I did like the music, but never cared to even screencap anything. Just too damn shoujo.
I think I watched Battle Girls because I was hoping for another Schoolgirl Strikers. I really enjoyed that show all around. That battle maid with the blue hair/megane.....and those garters? Definitely the under rated babe of the year.

I was trying to think of any kind of stream-of-conciousness series I could find. I know a few years back, there were lots of "good demon" series, then, there were some witch series that seemed to run together, and lately, the last few seasons have been monster girls. But 2017? Didn't seem to be a recurring theme.
Actually, that led to shows that I don't recall seeing other series about pop up. The aforementioned Welcome To The Ballroom-I liked, but never screencapped, as well as the whatever that show was called about high school quiz contests.(Nana Maru San Batsu-I looked it up) I didn't screencap that either, though I did dl the op/ed themes.
At least there were more food shows. How anyone could be an anime fan and still be anorexic/bulemic is beyond me.
Try watching more Shokugeki no Soma, Isekai Shokudou, or even Watashi no Italian, and try not to get hungry.
Yeah, this late on a new years eve-who's watching /a/nime and not getting the munchies.

Seems like "S2" was a popular mode this year. Maybe not as popular as say, Kemomo Friends or WhateverWitchAcademy, but at least 7 didn't get those threads. KF got a few posts though. Enjoy your KyoAni S2, suckers.
You can keep your zoo critters with the new staff. I'll always be able to keep ditzy kitties in my memory.

But-speaking of S2s, this was a real hit or miss year for sequels. Konosuba2 wasn't bad, though I still liked S1 better. Too much online drama between favorite girls. Which was stupid, because the best one was woefully underused after her debut-which was my favorite part of S2. I could see why people were going the "never ever" route about further releases.
As eh as KS2 was, it beat the absolute dogcrap out of DanMachi2, which had some of the least-likable semi-yuri of the year. Gimme my Hestia back!
Uchoten Kazoku 2 aired, and I watched it. I'd rather just watch S1 again, at least there was some story progression. It was like SHAFT got their hands on the franchise.
Saekano 2 and New Game 2 didn't have the same bite as their S1s, though I did watch them in their entirety.
I had to, just to watch the bland Megumi be better than the two forced characters from NG2. Why did they add to the cast, they already had Nenecchi!

best S2 of the year though? Just finished, and there's a new season of it showing up soon, which couldn't make me happier.
Who would have thought that DEEN could take over a series and continue the show seamlessly. That's what I got out of Hozuki no Reititsu 2, and knowing that there are Ichicko and Niko figures available, I will have an added expense soon.

One thing there was no shortage of this year, and that was eye candy of all different varities. You get your fox spirit on early in the year with Uraua, and finish with Konohana. Urara I enjoyed, it had some energy, while the latter kitsune show got a bit too precious and draggy at some times. It was like a fuzzy Tamayura.

I still won't forgive a former /a/ dweller for talking me into waatching that series. That show was pure valium.

Plus, if you enjoyed fighting school girls series-a few with a rather limited budget, there was enjoyment to be found with the other Isekai show, the slacker sensei, Buso Shoujou Machiavellianism (best butt of the year!), and even Sakura Quest....kindasorta.

Thsi might as well be a two-part as there were so many other shows that were fun, as long as they weren't taken too seriously. Dumb fun, or maybe better....unapologetic fun.
Fun like Gabriel Dropout, Maid Dragon, Galko, or even Tsugumomo were. These are the kind of series that keep my seinen hunger under control.

Okay, gettin' closer to midnight. Tequila down, heeaded for home stretch.
So, what have I decided I liked enough to put into contention for show of the year.
In the running-Demi-chan. It lagged a little at times, but did work well, compared with manga. Obviously there will be more (won't there?)/
Schoolgirl Strikers. Yeah, I just liked it that much. I must have, as they take up 40 % of my screenshots this year.
Urara. I didn't know how much I enjoyed this until re-watching a short time ago.
(another 2-parter, there's a bunch of nominees)

By the way, H/a/ppy New year.

other nominees are:
Hozuki no Reititsu2. Somehow DEEN pulled it off with no noticeable dropoff from S1.

Isekai Shokujou. That show put storeis behind the food, which was rather simple fare. I still get hungry watching that.

So, the obvious winner is.......

A show that I picked up on a whim, and thoroughly enjoyed it, despite it's premise. It's both seasons (so far) of Classicaloid. Choosing Bada-Chan as a character sent many to find out about her irl persona. Since I work in a record store, I have access to these composers and it's fun to interplay the LPs of the originals, and then play one of the soundtracks I got from this series. I just wonder what other composers are going to show up next season.
And best of all, this has the best Shoebill.

see ya /a/round

There were a lot of edgy animes last year, DIES IRAE, Evil or Die all that shit but I have to say that my favourite one had to be. EROMANGA-SENSEI

Watched Eromanga-sensei, and though I liked the ED song, I don't see myself ever re-watching. Considering I did get through both seasons of Oreimo, and then deleted them off my esternal drive soon after S2 fiished, Ero-Sensei will share that fate.
I didn't watch Dies Irae, doesn't look my a genre I follow, though it did help kill a long-time eroge game maker, as I believe Light is getting out of that business. I just wish I could find the Nuiguruma video Light put out last decade. And seeing DMM pitching in, looks like hentai pays off.....But we knew that, right KEY? But still no help from OverDrive, as KiraKira never got a series. An ova, but no animated series.

Oh well, time to get into more of the current season, I've watched one, and have 3 dled, so my night's busy.
and, I've already had a few beers.
