Isreal bombing the shit out of Gaza.

This is the worst thing Isreal can do. It provokes people and will lead to greater education on the entire issue which is NOT in Isreal's best interest.

Do you hear people up in arms about the injustices in gaza they way the public got outraged about South African apartheid?

Why?

>Israel never wanted the Palestinian terrorizes. It reacted to a potential invasion by the Arabs in the 1960s by occuplying the land for tactical purposes.
"A new State of Israel with broad frontiers, strong and solid, with the authority of the Israel Government extending from the Jordan to the Suez Canal." - Moshe Dayan, 1973.
>Then, it attempted to trade the lands in exchange for peace. That trading eventually worked, and- now- we have a free and independent Palestinian state.
You might want to look at map, your free and independent West Bank is being carved into 3 segments (Bantustans) by ever expanding and newly built Settlements and that glorious Wall that follows no known border

I've never said it was practicle or anyone wanted it, when I've mentioned it other threads I have expressly pointed out that the idea became moot after 1948 except for a period in the 1960s when Israel could have adopted it but instead chose expansion over security. Yes two-states is the best practicle solution.

Neil Gaiman raises money for Comic Book Legal Defense Fund's work in trial

Eric Chase, the lead lawyer for an Iowa man accused of possessing obscene manga, indicated to MTV's Splash Page blog that some of the manga in question are yaoi. Christopher Handley was originally charged on May 8, 2007, and his case will go on trial on December 2.

Chase told the Splash Page, "There is explicit sex in yaoi comics. And the men are drawn in a very androgynous style, which has the effect of making them look really young. There's a real taboo in Japan about showing pubic hair, so they're all drawn without it, which also makes them look young. So what concerned the authorities were the depictions of children in explicit sexual situations that they believed to be obscene. But there are no actual children. It was all very crude images from a comic book."

The Splash Page also interviewed award-winning comic book writer and Princess Mononoke adapter Neil Gaiman about his efforts to raise money for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF). This non-profit organization has been providing for the defense of First Amendment rights within the comic community since 1986, and it is supporting Chase's legal team on Handley's case. Gaiman noted that his own work deals with graphic violence and explicit sex with fictional minors, but for storytelling purposes and not for titillation. He added that some of his personal collection could be considered objectionable like some of Handley's collection, and criticized the rationale for Handley's arrest. "That's just deeply wrong. Nobody was hurt. The only thing that was hurt were ideas."

In July, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa struck down some of the charges against Handley and ruled parts of the PROTECT Act of 2003 unconstitutional for restricting free speech. However, Handley still faces obscenity charges and up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab has raised over US$38,000 for the CBLDF by selling perfume inspired by Neil Gaiman's comic books and novels.

This is from the PROTECT act of 2003

Problem #3: The Supreme Court declared unconstitutional a federal law that criminalized the possession of “virtual” child pornography. This decision has made it immeasurably more difficult to eliminate the traffic in real child pornography.

Solution #3: Strengthen the Laws Against Child Pornography in Ways that Can Survive Constitutional Review.

'in Ways that Can Survive Constitutional Review'

Does that mean 'in a way that can never be changed or argued against'?

I love how the interviewer just completely ignored everything he said in support of why he said Uncle Tom and just wanted to know if he meant that remark. This just makes me respect him more as he is willing to own up to his comments and have a rational justification of his ideas.

When it comes to war Israel has a single, simple strategy. Trap millions of people between tanks and warplanes. Cut off all food, water and electricity. Then systematically bring buildings down on their heads.

This is the murderous aim of Israel's ground invasion and air campaign against the Palestinians in Gaza. Israel does not distinguish between "militants" and "civilians" among Palestinians – their target is an entire people.

Massacre and state terror as tactics of war have been the meat and bones of Israeli military thinking ever since the foundation of the state in 1948.

Israeli generals think that if you starve and kill enough people, at some point the resistance will agree to save lives by surrendering.

Sometimes this strategy works – as in Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon – but sometimes it does not, as Israel discovered when it invaded Lebanon again in 2006.

It was the actions of ordinary people that made the difference between victory and defeat. In 1982 the Palestinians and Lebanese were trapped in Beirut as Israeli forces and allied militias encircled the city.

Escape

In contrast during the 2006 war, over one million mainly Shia Lebanese managed to escape from the Israeli juggernaut to find refuge in Christian, Druze and Sunni areas of Lebanon.

Even if it's 100% completely justified for the middle east to demolish the Israeli state and to replace it with an Islamist Jew-free state, what makes you think this will happen?

Note that President Obama will 1)Double down in Afghanistan, 2)Continue to give full support to Israel, and 3)Leave the US troops in Iraq as long as the American commanders feel necessary.

The only evidence you have to support the idea that your side will win is wishful thinking. That is it. It's one thing to say "Israel is doing bad things", it's another thing to make up bullshit about "We will win soon my brothers! It is destiny!" There's been over 60 years of failure from your side. Why do you think you'll win now?

I am a bisexual man. My logic for my support for Israel and my hatred for the Islamists is very simple.

Israel: Legal gay marriage. Basically qual rights for gays in all forms of society. Named a forest ('Pride Forest') after gay people (No really, they did. Google it).

Palestine/Islamists: One word -> Sharia. Gay = Death. No negotiation. No conditions. Just... death.

I am completely selfish, but if I don't stick up for my own- noone will.

I seriously cannot believe this post. If black and hispanic people were treated properly in America, and in the world, they'd be just as reluctant to have kids as white people are. The ignorance of some of the neo nazis on this board is astounding.

And if more black people were allowed into the upper and middle classes of society I'm sure there'd be more black classical musicians and more black authors.

I cannot stress this enough, RACISM IS NOT A RACE ISSUE, IT IS A CLASS ISSUE!!

Numerous sociologists have studied the impact of the MPAA on films, and thus popular culture. It has been noted that the structure of an industry (such as regulations and limitations) will ultimately influence the outcome of the cultural product. The MPAA sets and maintains regulations based on what they believe is morally sound. Films with overt or explicit sexual relationships often receive NC-17 ratings. For example, Brokeback Mountain initially received an NC-17 rating before being edited to receive an R rating. The MPAA’s subjective disapproval of overt or explicit sexuality is an indicator of their moral compass reflecting community standards. However, filmmakers and directors are often critical of the MPAA, because there seems to be no systematic guidelines for what type of content will receive a certain rating. The result of the MPAA’s control over films is a complex and mysterious one. Some argue that the MPAA has a huge impact on culture, by dictating what rating a film receives, and thus how commercially successful it is. In effect, the MPAA acts as a gatekeeper to what people can and cannot see. Almost every major theater company in the United States will not show NC-17 movies, and if a film receives an R rating, it limits the amount of potential movie-goers that can see the film (no one under 17, unless with an adult). Globally too, the MPAA’s influence is felt. Nearly every movie theater on the planet features American movies, which subsequently goes through the MPAA’s moral filter. In this sense, the MPAA’s moral standards reach far beyond the American movie theater. Globalization is increasing the impact of the MPAA as American films become more popular and accessible abroad. As such, the MPAA has a sister organization, the Motion Picture Association, which represents the interests of MPAA members outside the United States.

Well, I don't know who the fuck this Cohen fellow is, and I don't give a shit, because 90% of my posts are on /kitchen/ or /b/.

Although it's a radical, isolationism is the only choice this country has if it wants to remain significant in geopolitics. The United States has to get out of the Middle East, the faster the better. Fuck 9-11; these aren't our people or our problem. The bitter pill / elephant in the room is Israel. They've been a nation for less than a century but sixty years, plus; let them deal with their own shit.

America has to pull out of everything - wars, oil deals, anti-semitism; it's all the same shit and the lines have been blurred since before any of us were born. What everybody in the world, it seems, has forgotten is that America had nothing to do with any of this in the first place.

It's a touch hypocritical that those that are in favor of a free market are the same people that espouse murder in the name of capital gain. The idea that all is fair in love and war has been applied to money. This thinking is prevalent and could kill us all, easily, if left unchecked.

Is it that impossible to think that the U.S. could immediately cease its involvement in the Arab world, even if its ties to the U.A.E. are at stake? Theoretically, it would be as simple as signing a few treaties; realistically, it involves the 20th century and all the politics that went with it.
