I'm actually sick to fucking death of the current generation of artists.

There's no drive to find meaning, there's no effort into establishing truths, it's nothing but protests against Old World thought (without actually trying to forge a new identity) and blatant attempts at shocking the viewer.

I'm tired /rnb/ I no longer consider myself an artist since I will not associate myself with a group who defines art as having a chicken attached to your dick.

I'm also probably not allowed to because I have a dick and it happens to be white. Which means I'm somehow magically privileged.

I know what you mean, we have fallen so far away from real talent... the new "talent" is often just people trying to be edgy... but ending up being total fucktards. Another place where this applies is the film industry. I look at films now, even if they are very good and entertaining, and just feel sick at the fact that 90% of the scenes were filmed in a big ass green room, with the "actors" interacting with green cubes and shit like they are in kindergarden. It feels so fake now, and meaningless. It makes directors and shit pointless, cause you can pay a 20 y/o zit faced fuck to design you a whole set on his laptop.

Teenage Girl 15/03/28(Sat)21:52 No. 20456 ID: 9af6d4

>not allowed to
...consider yourself an artist?

Remember when actors used to act? Watch some of the Golden Age films. They sang, they danced, they jumped through fire and they made subtle facial expressions to enhance the dialog.

Now every actor wants to be a writer and director; have their say in everything from their character's dialog to plot design; and not do any physically demanding scenes.

Fucking hell...I agree 100% with this thread.

You should see some of the retardery I see when I walk through the art building at uni.

>art building at uni
...where a whole new generation of crap artists is being nurtured by the last generation of crap artists.

I just watched "Lucy" last night, and couldn't believe, shitloads of people got paid real money and millions of dollars were given to scientifically illiterate goobers to make that idiotic story based entirely on the antiquated fallacy that the human mind only operates using 10% of the brain and using more of it enables supernatural powers over matter, space and time. And that, even with all that retardation going on, a couple chinks with handguns are still a threat. Unreal, and sadly typical.

It seems everyone making films is really just exercising their freedom to express stupidity and bad ideas.

>It seems everyone making films is really just exercising their freedom to express stupidity and bad ideas.
There's a right way and a wrong way to go about that. Syfy channel original movies and shows made for Adult Swim tend to do that in such an over-the-top way that you know it's on purpose and you can't really be mad at them for it. Mainstream entertainment that pretends to be anything besides that, however, comes off as condescending to the viewer. It's the difference between "lol look how stupid we're being on purpose isn't this funny guys" versus "the real joke is that we believe y'all're really stupid enough to go along with this premise."

Teenage Girl 15/04/14(Tue)13:46 No. 20554 ID: f1f181

I don't even watch TV series anymore because they all turn into soaps.

I started watching House to see cool rare diseases and stuff, not to watch middle aged people fuck.

Game of Thrones is just porn. Vikings looks cool, but it's so historically inaccurate, I'm surprised they don't have god damn horns on their helmets. I'm not even gonna bother watching.

Oh and then there's film remakes.
The original Star Trek discussed ethical questions that are still relevant today. The action and visuals may be outdated, but the psychological tension is still there.
But the 2009 film... my god.
>good guy
>bad guy
>shoot out
>good guy defeats the bad guy
>good guy gets the girl
>the end

Also, moe is killing the anime industry.

At least Abrams is off Star Trek, now he can fuck up Star Wars even more badly than Lucas did with the prequels and re-re-re-re-re-re-releases of the original trilogy.

Art is often a reflection of our society and cultural focus. No one's coments are wrong, in fact this kind of awareness and talking about the shit that is out there will move the process along.

These kinds of comments were made about a lot of art after the first world war. The young artists then were all war veterens suffering PTSD and making shit work for a shit world. It got better eventually and art improved. Then in the late 20th century it got really shitty again mainly because the worlds cultures got hijacked by corporate greed and unchecked materialism.

There is very little amazing, groundbreaking art out there, and much of it that IS new and progressive is hidden away as non-relevant or potentially unpopular. Which is another problem, the majority of people in the world, including art critics and "artistic people" have been force fed shit for a long time and know what sells and what people will buy or marvel over...mainly shit.
Never mind the cinema, directors and writers have been running out of ideas for topics and basic visual skills for decades. That is entirely money driven. There are great movies out there but you have to wade through a lot of shit to find them.

Art in general is pumping out shit: the non-creative, the genearic, the religiously repressed, the PATRIOTIC, thats what is happening in ALL the worlds cultures now.

Someone, maybe even multiple people, will breakthough at somepoint, they will be or are currently considered "Avant-garde" or "radical" or just plain weird. And we will be told not to like them because of it, and then our grandchildren will learn in school how they changed the art world forever. But in the mean time all the shit art will have to get out of their system. We just have to ride the wave so to speak.

OP I find your picture of that performace artists perfect for this discussion. It is all rebellion for the sake of rebellion. What message do you think the nuns are getting from the chicken tied to his dick?

Wasn't Lucy just live-action Akira with a pretty white chick instead of a Japanese teenage boy? Because based on the premise and trailers, that's what it seemed to be.

Teenage Girl 15/04/22(Wed)09:02 No. 20600 ID: 275052

Yes and no: yes in that they stole someone else's premise and added a marketably hot white woman in there to help it sell, but no in that this won't be enough to stop them from attempting a more direct Hollywood version of Akira that ends up ruining everything you ever enjoyed.

Such is the nature of the beast: derivative, overcommercialized populist schlock that endures because it's profitable. The bigger problem is when we're given a false dichotomy between that and edgy transgression for the sake of edgy transgression (like OP's example pic of "hey look at me with a cock tied to my cock it's like almost clever or something").

Teenage Girl 15/05/21(Thu)08:19 No. 20619 ID: 89e00f

>"it's like almost clever or something"
I can see this guy hanging out at Starbucks later, telling his friends about his guerilla, avant-guarde experience.

He's going to tell them it was "ironic". He will misuse that word in this way; he will mean that he considered it to be a thought-provoking dichotomy of some kind, but his lack of vocabulary is a telling sign that he does not understand such things, nor could he distinguish one from the other. He is unable to see idiocy for what it is because he has given in to social pressure to distinguish himself, regardless of his ability to do so.

The condition isn't limited to his own idocy, he very likely suffers from general idiocy blindess. I imagine he enjoys horribly edgy music, eats only non-leathal animal products and raw vegetables, etc.

OR, this is how he dresses and acts everyday. He walked home shortly after this to his two room apartment where he keeps his stockings, gloves, head dresses, and shoes. Turned on the television for his bedridden mother so she can watch some wholesome French movie about the eroticism of food. Then untied the cock from his cock that he had just purchased from the farmers market, cooked it, and ate it.

This might just be another Tuesday for this poor motherfucker!

Count on the French to draw a line between art and vandalism.

(until one of them vandalizes the line)
