Aren't you guys bummed out? We missed out on large scale land colonization, we're like right in the middle of it, 200 years ago was the most recent large scale colonization, and it will probably take 200 more years for us to be colonizing other stars... i know i am ;_; whenever i look at the stars i get sad because of that ;(((

wouldnt the Death Star need time to recharge again before it choose another target?

there seems to be some time between its shots when the second one was hitting the rebel fleet in episode 6
>> No. 1926
My bet goes on the deathstar.

Assuming they are hostile to each other from the very start and fight head to head the deathstar fires it's main weapon and the cube is gone. The cube wouldn't have a chance. Of course a second cube might adapt its shields to compensate but there's still the issue of the raw power of a weapon designed to annihilate planets hitting a ship a few Km across.

Now if the cube attacked the star unexpectedly it could warp into the main weapons blind spot (which is quiet large), adapt it's shields after the first few volleys of blaster fire and go to town on the thing with it's superior manoeuvrability and impervious shields.

I won't go into the Drones Vs Vader thing as I'm talking pure ship to ship combat...

then you'll be happy to know that Paramount executives had a firm "no homo" policy for Star Trek and kybosh any scripts depicting it.
In the future your kind has been cured.

Enterprise was an abomination and whoever worked on it should be curb stomped and thrown in a wood chipper............except for that vulcan chick because she was hot (so hot that it made her character lame)

Sup guys - I'm looking for some new sci-fi literature, so I think this is the best place to come to.

Firstly, can anyone recommend any good time-travel novels that will fucking rape my brain? You know the shit where when you get to the end something happens which basically results in the novel, or some crazy shit like that.

Secondly, can anyone recommend any good HARD sci-fi? Possibly something that a layman like me would again find mind-blowing, preferably something set in the far-future?

Cheers guys, as always.

Hard SF - Greg Egan: Schild's Ladder, Diaspora, Incandescence
Bruce Sterling: Schismatrix Plus, though it's more character based rather than concept based.

Go hard, brother.

Stanislaw Lem - for hard sci-fi try "The Invincible", or "Fiasco"
For fucked up time travel try some of the short stories in his "Star Diaries". Although those aren“t intented to be taken absolutely serious.

When Caprica was released on the net about a year ago I elected not to watch it and wait for the live broadcast.

So you could imagine a year of anticipation lead to above average expetations

I'm very happy to say the first episode of this new show completely exceeded them. It's so GOOD ! Great details for the BSG fans, but it doesn't take away from the fact that this show stands well on it's own. Already got my entire family waiting to watch it tomorrow, download the torrent if you missed it, great set up for what I expect to be a very interesting series.

But do me a favor, if you liked it at least try to watch it on live broadcast...I don't want another premature ending ala BSG.

The show pretty much sucks. I followed through to the latest episode (8, i think?) and it had a good start, true, but afterward, the show become more and more boring. They need to spice it up somehow.

im still stuck somewhere in season 3 of BSG.

Wankerface.

If you name your ship something trying to be cool, the best you can do is set yourself up for failure.

Name your ship Wankerface, everybody wins.

Book 4 was the only one i'd consider bad, at least of the ones Herbert actually wrote. I've heard the ones by his son is a whole new species of awful.
