Just adjust the levels etc... in photoshop after running through the channel with the most contrast. Then you have to clean up the spots and make sure there are no islands.

LOL@tehRAGE, but this is true. MANY of the 'stencils" posted contain islands and shading etc...

When making a stencil you have to understand that it's the BLACK part that's going to be cut away, which basically means that all the white has to be contiguous. I think it's possible to make a complex layered stencil that avoids the problem of islands, but that means several individual stencils need to be used to create the final image with spraypaint.

This is how I started it... I took swayze and created a dupe layer > then chose the green channel > then adjusted the curves > then adjust the levels (at this point you could tweak the threshold but I forgot to). Here is what I was left with...

Then I cleaned it up and opened the islands etc... and this is what I finished with. I don't really think yours is bad BTW, this was a hard picture to use. Mine certainly needs more tweaking, but the raw stencil is there.

There seem to be a few good youtube posters, but so far what I've been doing is reading the SAM'S Teach Yourself Photoshop CS3 in 24 Hours book. I found it by googling the title of the book with "rapidshare" after the title. Then I just started the lessons.

Besides that, when I want to do something that I haven't learned yet I just search it in youtube. Supposedly Itunes also has many podcast tutorials (which I think are free).

The one youtube poster that has really stuck out at me is this guy...

He's obviously a channer. He makes bad jokes that only a channer would understand. Plus he's got skillz.

For a step by step guide though, I reccomend the SAMS book and another title called "Adobe Photoshop CS3 Classroom in a Book." These two are for beginners and are very similar. Everything that they leave out you can find on youtube.

I also have a Sybex Mastering Photoshop book that I got on rapidshare that I haven't used yet because I am still a beginner myself.

So yea... TLDR = rapidshare & youtube. Though Itunes supposedly has good stuff too.

To do stencils just search youtube for "making borat stencil." It's short and I like that one.

They aren't as good as teh books if you are a beginner, but he does have skills.

Also, my wife is Japanese and she obviously has BLACK hair, so I wanted to turn her hair blonde which is actually EXTREMELY difficult compared to turning brown hair blonde. So I searched it on youtube and easily found it. Still haven't managed to turn her hair blonde, but I spent 8 motherfucking hours trying! Anyway, the point is that if you want to do it, there is a tutorial for it. If you know nothing, start with a book. If happen across that rapidshare file I'll post it, but it should be easy to find with minimal effort.

Cool man, do you actually paint it? To be honest, I don't have any interest in graf, I just like digi-art. I had some friends that did graf back in the day and they all got busted, and I'm too old now to be sneaking around at night.

I met a kid today that does graf and he wants to start a clothing line and he liked some the stuff I shooped so I offered to do some of his work for free so I can build my portfolio. I need a career change and digi-art seems to be the most chill/highest paid job other than general IT which I hate.
