PPS-43
Wear a glove.

I think I seen new ones for sale somewhere online (real ones) in the 300 dollar range. Of course civilians couldnt buy these. I do have a brand new demilled kit; the things are as simple as simple gets. I love how the stock engages on them, nice and crisp.

Instead of wearing a glove, couldn't you hold it by the magazine, or does that part also get hot?

I would probably suggest wearing a glove regardless if you're shooting something that is full auto. The PPS-43 has a fixed firing pin and it can fire out of battery. Hot gasses escaping or a chain reaction in your mag probably wouldn't feel to good on a bare hand.

I heard that PPSh-41 drum mags are pretty unreliable so regular mags are better.

I had a problem in using PPSh-41. The guns is heavy and there is not a good place for supporting hand. With box magazine you can hold on the magazine root, but with drum magazine you need to hold the bottom of magazine.

PPS-43 was easier to shoot with. It is ~1.3 kg lighter and has extended magazine housing which can be used as front grip. The weapon looks clunky, but it is pretty easy to shoot with.
