The TIE fighter was produced by Sienar Fleet Systems. It was the first starfighter in the TIE range of starfighters. It was fast and manouverable due to it's Twin Ion Engines. (Hence the name.)It's armour was adequate though not particularly impressive. It was armed with a pair of laser cannons and had no shield or Hyperspace engine. Due to this it had a short range and required a carrier to take it from system to system. Because of it's basica design it was able to be mass produced which helped to counter it's other weaknesses. Overall the TIE fighter works best for Capital ship escort, anti-bomber and anti-fighter duty, and for in system patrols.
