So, /zom/, do you guys have any plans on rebuilding civilization after the zompocalypse?

I always fantasize about having a little community with it's own little militia and having farmers feed our population by farming on the outskirts of town.


And what would be the best way to clear out a, let's say, 25,000 population town of zombies to make it safe? Fortifying it? Protecting from siege and raiders?


Also, kind of straying away from zombies here but, do you think we would ever get back to the point of space travel? I would like to think zombies would just bring upon a second dark age, and we would eventually get back on track with technological development.

Opinions?

I doubt you could take over anything that wasn't from McDonalds.

Jokes aside, how exactly would you "take over a group from the inside". I'd love to hear how someone with no talent whos main experience in real life comes down to "sits in front of a computer yelling at mom to bring me cheezy snacks" would go from the position of an outsider, to the head of whatever group they attempted to become a part of.

As for the zombie apocalypse I would call/text all friends and family on day one while phones still work. Tell them where I'm going and what to bring with them. I would go to a local food or furniture warehouses or BJ's "other options acceptable" set up a group to come back to there, then go to the nearest corp dept store that sells guns, knives, bows, ammo, and survival gear. Sorry to take it from the walking dead but newcomers get the three questions. Use friends and family to dominate group and run things. Run a semi democratic community, have council but have it rigged.Build, and scavenge outward from base, collect and burn the redead. I'm a fit guy so I'd run raid parties.

I think there is only 2 possibility for the social organization:

We can have a charismatic and strong leader succeeding at unifying the people and a more-or-less dictatorship will be established.
Given the situation, he will have no other choice than establish a maoist-like policy and use force against all opponents.
While this assure us than we can farm safely from both zombies and looters, it will also result in atrocious living conditions. We will have to hide the food we make and we will be tortured by the police to give it. We basically have the choice of a hard working life, keeping a low profile all the time, and being killed. All rebellions will be solved in a bath of blood and there is a small chance for stalinist purges or Kmer rouge slaughtering.
After decades of this bullshit, situation should be stabilized and we could hope for a better future.

The second possibility is a total decay of civilization and a come back to dark ages. If there is no more guns, small groups of well armed and trained friends will loot farms, do whatever they want where they are and will finish to realize that they can just say they are the lords of a given place. Massive local conflicts and pillages will follow and we will slowly see a medieval hierarchy appear.
After century of farmers being slaughtered by wars, there is a chance that the productivity will be high enough so the strong people will rely on modern institutions rather than pure force to impose themselves in positions of power. Then, society can start again.

In any case, we are fucked.

This is a failed strategy, and you can't survive with "lota guns".

Why? Because the army already tried. You really think that 10 undisciplined manchild can success where the fucking army failed?

You shoot one time and all zombies at 5km walk toward you.

You are 10 in a house, there is no more electricity and water and you just have 3L of water left.

If you plan to get thought zombies by force, you are fucked. What you need is several years of food, a water source and purification filters/pills a well-hidden place and some luck.

Sup /zom/, simple question: what are some good zombie books to read?

I lik the Day by Day Armageddon series for what it was, even if the third book was a little phoned in. There's also the Plague of the Dead, I've only read the first book, but I liked it a little more.

So, has anyone got any good zombie books to add? Oh, besides WWZ.

As far as zombie literature you often need to take a few steps back in order to move forward. A few I have found enjoyable are as follows.
Book of the Dead by John Skipp Craig Spector (collection of short stories)
Wet Work by Philip Nutman (black ops team abroad when outbreak happens)
The Dead by Mark E. Rodgers (standard fare with a demonic twist)
Dead City by Joe Mckinney (1st of the Dead World Series a virus breaks out in Texas after hurricanes)
Down the Road by Bowie V. Ibarra (1st of series set in Texas again survival drama guy travelling the state trying to get home.)
Dying to Live by Kim Paffenroth (1st of series survival drama where the dead are the least of your troubles)
Autum by David Moody (1st of series slow starter heavy on drama less on gore picks up halfway in)
The Rising by Brian Keene (1st of series another demon possession series with a twist beware of animals)
Day By Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne (1st of kinda series, stick with the first one)
Zombies and Shit by Carlton Mellick III (OK this is just a fun read, survival show meets Return of the Living Dead)
The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor by Robert Kirkman, Jay Bonansinga (1st of series essentially the governors back story a bit lacklustre unless you are a fan of the series)

this may be ignored, or "sage", or else but im bored as hell so here goes nothing...
a long time ago 7-10 years or myabe moar there were a certain story bout a notebook or RP or
not really sure, one anon find this notebook and write something on it and left it for the next anon write something else, obviously it was in a zombie apocalypse era, and anons wrote their exp bad, good, cheap, noble, etc like some sort of diary who passed along survivors of the zom apocalypse, now my question is simple, is there any place where this story its saved,or thread its alive somewhere? or at least some anon knows bout what im typing?

Close I can recall here was a history thread that listed past events in sequential order until it caught up with the present then proceeded into the speculated (and turned wacky) future.

It's am urban-dead knockoff with added vampires (that the creators have a fetish/bias for playing as) and a 'donate'-to-win mechanic.

The only other difference to note is a bigger emphasis on combat (that the developers claim is "streamlined") which means more damage/less health and a 2:1 ration of weapons vs every other usable item. The weapons are also grossly unbalanced which makes 90% of them redundant as you work your way up the tiers towards the cookie cutters.

Stick to UrbanDead unless you have a vampire fetish (or go and read twilight).

0-3 "Fuck this." You an heroed once you heard the news
4-6 You ignored the warnings. Your home was invaded. You're hiding in a room and it's only a matter of time until they find you.
>If you roll a 4, 5, or 6 then reroll. 0-4=You try to escape but you tripped over something and alerted the zombies. You're zombie bait.
>5-9= You successfully escaped the zombies in your house and are on your way to a rural piece of property.

7-8 You grabbed a good amount of supplies and made it out with little/no trouble. You're in good shape.

9 God help the poor zombie who finds you and your group of the perfect survivalists. You're well stocked with food and ammunition. You have a good sized team of people who know exactly what to do and how to survive this apocalypse. You've got plenty of stuff to keep you entertained for years to come. Your house is well guarded and you have the resources to maintain it. You'll make it out of this alive.

As a sidebar note, I'd like to say I realize these are relatively massive projects to undertake given the duress of the zombie wasteland. They would require a skilled labor force, no matter what the case may be, and a stout security detail in this case. Additionally, you would need access to the resources necessary for the build: building supplies, heavy machinery, tools, and fuel.

All that said, I think this could still be a feasible build with a large, strong group. I've tried to imagine these builds as something that could be reasonably accomplished with limited resources common in the zombie wasteland. You may be scavenging and stripping old buildings, or raid a couple warehouses and industrial shop yards for supplies. There's likely going to be abandoned machinery everywhere, and you really only need a couple backhoes, bulldozers, flatbeds, and concrete mixers for the job.

I grew up in a rural city and its surrounding areas. I would see the required materials all the time, it's what used to get my gears turning. So yes the setup would need to be perfect and our execution flawless, but if we can get a group together that's well organized and motivated, this would be a great build. Our aim would be to create a secure and sustainable environment in the zombie wasteland. We aim to not only survive, but to thrive.

And if a car gets over the trench in some miraculous way, I doubt it will have enough momentum left to do much damage to the wall. Especially if we build this thing out in the middle of the woods with only 1 road going in and out.

Yeah, but is that really a positive reference for the guy's skills at designing defenses? Every single one of Umbrella's defensive works have folded like a well used accordion. Just look at that mess in Opossum City...uh, I mean...

Seriously, though, I see a potentially fatal flaw with the design. The basic idea, using the detritus from a moat to build the dike for the fortress, is as old as organized warfare; an idea doesn't survive that long unless it has some REAL merit. I think that the way OP has used modern materials and construction methods for his works is very pragmatic and encouragingly competent. The problem, I think, is one of scale. The curtain-wall needs to be AT LEAST twice as tall as it is currently rendered. There is a real danger that, if the position falls under serious attack...surrounded by the usual horde of tens of thousands of walking corpses...that the zeds you kill will eventually form a ramp which the next wave can shamble up and clamber over your ramparts. That would be VERY bad; better to take longer in the construction phase (though this would of course be very risky) than to find out that your position is not sound after it is too late to do anything about it. Short version; deeper ditch, higher dike, problem solved.
