Although arguably longer cause in Chechnya they did even worse, it's just how they wage war bro. Also war sucks in general, US killed like a milloon in middle east, just that they didn't sacrifice their own citizens at that insane rate. Still sucked all-round.
As a eastern European who understands both the vibe of Russia and Ukraine and Eastern Europe in general, I have come to the conclusion that Americans simply don't get it and will never get it, that includes Trump, Vans, Elon. Their actions reflect that, but I don't hold it against them, it is simply an alien world to them and that's to be expected. It's just that some people have a wisdom to realize that they don't understand something and let those who do understand take the reins, but I think only Elon could be wise enough to do that and even he isn't it seems. Although he has shut up about it, so maybe he is wise enough.
It is a very brutal war. Yes. But nothing about it is new or surprising to those who understand Russian society. It is truly unimaginable to Americans I believe. They will never get it. It is very different from Western European or even former Soviet states. What Russia actually is is not something that is even within the realm of possibility for most people who do not have lived experience interacting with that vibe and even me, I'm only interacting with it through an echo in time, not directly.
It's a different world, except for Belarus, the people are a bit different there, but the regime is quite similar.
This whole thing makes me humble when I think about China, because I think I know something about it, but I probably don't know anything about how it truly is on the ground and the actual vibes and realities and social structures there.
