Lovely website, provides very good summaries and introductions to writings of Philosophers from Sartre to Confucius but in squashed versions so you don't feel overwhelmed reading some massive chunk of text to understand one concept!!!

Not strictly a resource, but a very cool site nonetheless.

no TED?

www.ted.com

Not strictly philosophical and a site most of you probably know, but I think TED should be included in any listing of this type. For those of you who do not know about it, it's a site that has a bunch of fascinating talks about a variety of subjects. In some cases posing questions, others positing thoughts, others defining problems, still others proposing solutions, describing/demonstrating technology, etc. etc. etc. taken from an annual conference where they bring together speakers from various fields to share ideas.

There are far worse things you can devote 20 or so minutes to than listening to a few of these.

>>
Anonymous 12/02/07(Tue)16:56 No. 5998 ID: 023a94

Yea, Ted.com is great, but I think all the phi students would be lost. They're still stuck trying to figure out if it's possible there's a reality or existence, and there on Ted are all these people that are making definite statements about things.

The horror... The horror... The horror...

Would timecube.com be better?

Comment & Referances Anonymous 12/02/10(Fri)21:07 No. 6066 ID: 84ca8c

The 'philosophy-student-still-trying-to-prove-external-world' stereotype is something which is almost unique to contemporary analytical philosophy, what with its hereditary focus upon reason, 'truth' and logical necessity. Seeing that analytical philosophy is about the only type taught in the anglophone west, it is not surprising that such nonsense abounds. The so-called 'continental' philosophers have far less problem in this area since they are not trying to step on the epistemologists toes, and are instead more properly concerned with meaning (in general, anyway).

http://luchte.wordpress.com/
This is in the deep end, but J. Luchte is an accoplished lecturer in this area, with a number of high quality essays on show on his word press, as well as alot of poor quality poetry.

http://www.fordham.edu/gsas/phil/babich/32_29-%20Nietzsche%27s%20%20Imperative.pdf
Here B. Babich elucidates one of the primary themes of neitzsche's thinking; amor fati.

I cant find an online copy but F. Beisar's 'The Romantic Imperative' gives a very good, and often funny, accout of the philosophical origins of the early german romantics. Of note it also gives a secondary account of the breakdown of Kant's Enlightnement/copernican project, by way of an account of its detractors and countermovements.

The best christian philosopher in the world. Cool. Ranks him right up there with the best zoroastrian philosopher in the world and the best mithraic philosopher in the world. Great for adherents of those cults, but pretty weak shit outside them.

That's not true.
Read the Bible before you start making claims about how nice it is.
There are tons of reasons the Bible gives to murder people, harass them, or hurt them.
It has structure, rules, demands obedience, and demands that followers convert others.

I have found this to be a great positive influence on my life, not just philosophically/abstractly or in practical life matters, but also in the other things the site introduced me to. Got me into Nietzsche, Burroughs, and some pretty awesome metal bands I'd probably never have had heard of.
