Civ IV but eventually you crack it because it's quite finite. Civ 5 is quite infinite in variations of strategy. Civ 3 is somewhere in the middle between the three. All of them are a complete waste of time and unless you're down and out or just a kid I would not recommend it.

Other than that - irl stuff like building businesses and technology and maybe even social structures, but be careful with this one, there are hostile jews out there and they love to play this game and play it ruthlessly.
It may be pretty slow to pick up pace, but you're not bound by the parameters of the human limited designers. I mean humans can and do get good, but they're merely imitating what's possible out here. And sometimes they do a tremendous job, but still..

The only Civilisation game I've played a lot was the original and that was too long ago. I do have V and have tried it but it didn't grab my attention even as loosely as the original back in the day.
