Hello /v/, first time poster here, my 21st D-day is coming up and I want my license to carry and conceal. I have my eyes on a snazzy Glock 21 chambered in the .45 but I only have experience in the lighter 9 mm round, so, I need to know, is the extra recoil very noticeable? I am a pretty big guy and can usually handle myself but is there a hugely noticeable difference in kick?
Yes, the difference in recoil is noticable. All you gotta do is shoot it til its comfortable.
All that extra recoil is wasted. The round has about as much energy as 9mm. Get a glock 22. Less felt recoil and a more effective round. You can shoot through light cover and at longer range than 45. If you really want a large pistol round you can always get a glock 20, but good luck finding 10mm ammo. I've never seen it and it may not exist. I think its a myth.
if you want a .45 caliber pistol, don't get a glock out of all things. fucks sake
>>14799 unless you are fat or wear really baggy cloths you will not be able to properly conceal a Glock 21. like the other anon said, there is little power difference between 9/40 and 45. I have a Glock 19 and 42. The 19 prints slightly at all times. I am 69" 170 lbs btw. If not fat I suggest 26, if fat I suggest 23/19 or 17/22. Also, if you are poor you might want 9mm because it is cheaper to shoot but you can carry +p+ that has the same power as a 40. It so exciting getting your ccw permit amd first handgun!
.45 is twice the mass of 9mm with half the muzzle velocity. 9mm can over penetrate, .45 is heavier, so gravity gets involved at longer ranges.
45 was made to stop a man sized target in a matter of life and death why would you want to need to dump half a mag to stop an attacker
>>15414 >>14799 Glock 26 is a terrible choice if you have even slightly normal sized hands. It simply wont fit your hand. Some people may be able to deal with their pinky and possibly their ring finger hanging off of the grip, but I cant stand it personally. I feel that it GREATLY affects my shooting ability. To each their own, but you should probably rent a sub-compact and compact at your local range to try them out and see whats comfortable for you. Also the short barrel on the sub-compacts has a noticeable increase in muzzle flip (recoil)
My suggestion is to go rent a few different guns you like at the range and try them out. When I was getting my ccw I went out and bought a P2000Sk subcompact without shooting it first. It was great because it was so concealable, but it was small and light enough that it sucked to shoot with and thus I rarely even shot it. Moral of the story is that you need to find something that works for you.
>>15430 >tfw not carrying the century arms springfield knockoff with an 18 round mag to dump half into chest cavity of attacker and still have legal deniablitiy of time to think or retreat as some states would not call it legal self defense if you have time for shot placement
I choose 30mm https://youtu.be/p2UZhjXCWPM
Yes, the recoil is greater. However it's not bad, certainly way more manageable than the G20 (10mm) The G21 is a bit heavier and larger in the hand than a G17 or 19. .45 has a couple things going for it when used in a G21. First the standard mag is 13 rounds. So plenty of capacity. Second the recoil had a little less "snap" than some other rounds like 40SW or 357 sig. Lastly, the .45 cartridge is subsonic, so if you had to fire it indoors to defend yourself, you're less likely to get permanent hearing problems from it.
I skipped over the concealed carry aspect of the question. As some other anons mentioned, maybe a smaller pistol for concealed carry would be better. Although .45 is a great cartridge, if you're going to be hauling a pistol around with you everywhere, you'll soon be looking for something a little smaller and lighter than a G21. There's a reason that G19's are so popular. The size/weight is pretty good for most people.
9mm UZI all the way for me.
