Found this in a news article about China's (alleged) new rail gun.

This is supposed to be a test firing "of a US navy electromagnetic rail gun that can fire projectiles at 8700km/h — without the aid of gunpowder"

If the cannon doesn't use any gunpowder, and the projectile is not self-propelled, where is all that fire coming from?

My first thought was this must be an ordinary cannon firing an ordinary projectile from an explosive propellant and no one bothered to do any research before publishing the article, as is standard procedure for modern news.

Then again, despite the aerodynamic design of the projectile it must create some friction against the air and the barrel, and in turn heat; the magnetic propulsion system may also generate heat on the projectile through induction. Would a projectile fired from a suffiently powerful railgun create such an explosion when exiting the barrel?

I'm thinking about buying a Taurus PT-111 G2 this black friday.

This'll be my first handgun, and it doesn't quite meet my criteria (seems like more of a concealed carry gun), but it's only 200 dollars.

If I were to get the kind of gun that I really want, such as a Springfield XD, it'd cost me at least 500. So for someone with no interest in concealed carry, would a CC gun like the Taurus PT-111 G2 be a good choice?

Do we have any long-range enthusiasts here? I've looked into single-shot .50 BMG:s, and concluded most of them suck some major balls (from an engineering standpoint).

If they bother with a bullpup design, they use a full-length traditional bolt and end up with 2 pounds and 10 inches in "dead weight" anyways.

So, having dabbled in CNC machining, I said "fuck it" and decided to start designing my own. It's basically a scales-down PAK-38 design, with a sliding breech.

How does this compare accuracy-wise to traditional locking-lugs? I know there are some sliding breech safari-guns, but I don't have any data on accuracy. 1 MOA is my goal. Pic very related.

Hello. I m from California. I recently tried to buy a gun and was denied by the DOJ. When the letter came to explain why, it said the cause of denial was battery. When I was 14 years old I got in a fight and was charged with misdemeanor attempted battery. That was 8 years ago. I am aware that you must wait a period of 10 years after a violent conviction to purchase a gun in California. My question is, can I expunge my juvenile record and re apply for a background check ? Can I appeal this in any way ? ( the party who had pressed charges on me has actually forgiven me and is willing to do so in court, if possible to help me)or Am I going to have to wait another 2-3 years? All I wanted was to be an armed guard and move up in my field of work. this is a service pistol, Glock-19. I haven't been in trouble since then. The only thing bumming me out and motivating me to try and fight it, is the 200$ Restocking fee the gun store wants to charge me for basically nothing. I feel pretty fucked over. So I'm 200 dollars out for attempting to buy a gun. I know I should have expunged my record at 18 to be safe. Any advice or positive words would help
