The Legend of Korra Anonymous 12/04/13(Fri)18:40 No. 22752 [Reply] [Last 50 posts]

In anticipation of the premier of Korra tomorrow morning, I bring you the Official Discussion Thread!

If the trailers are any indication, this series will be just as good as the original. I for one look forward to it, for since the original concluded I have had to settle for less than satisfactory actions 'toons and ponderous anime for my fix of cartoon drama and violence.

The other /co/ seems to be constantly arguing over rather or not Korra is a redeemable character or just a static one. Many claim their hate for her stems from their hate of Mako and Korra being together. Korra still has her own unique personality and there were still plenty of character development that often times gets overlooked by the love triangle story-arc, but what does 7chan's /co/ think of her character?

Chainsaw Expert ( has seen over 156 chainsaws) 13/09/24(Tue)17:39 No. 23719

Well, Korra has a kind of duality with Aang in many aspects, Aang didn't want to be an avatar, but when confronted with it he tried to act as avatar-ishly as possible, Korra on the other hand always wanted to be the avatar but when she finally got out of training and in to the real world, she didn't know what to do. I also think most people seem to forget that Korra was sheltered most of her life doing water, earth & fire training, so she doesn't know how to make independent choices or knowing when she's being manipulated into something.
Actually now I think about it, the lack of independence is her main characteristic:
-she wanted to do air training not for herself, but because it is expected form the avatar to know all 4 powers
-she joins the pro-bending team not for self development or even entertainment but rather seeking validation from Mako and Bolin
-whenever she's forced to step out of line of her superior (be it Tenzen or someone else) she justifies herself that "as an avatar I should..." instead of acting on her own conscience
-and mostly in the 2nd season, she only capable of thinking "I need a master" first switching from Tenzen to her uncle and now forcing herself to decide between the uncle and the rebels (represented as her father)

In the end she tries to act strong and hotheaded but all the time seeks validation of her deeds in others

I read what I thought was pretty far into the series, but that Andrew (is that his name?) guy is so prolific I don't think I could ever reach the end.

I liked it, got a little sour on it after seeing the reams and reams of fanart and animations based on it. Reminded me if I applied real effort I could produce beautiful popular work instead of admiring other people that do :/

This is my theory as well. we've seen mysterious pink shit around in the ancient history segments (with Simon & Marcy), that was PB aka Glob. All the Candy Kingdom, the structures as well as people, is literally part of it, with fictive distinction created just for its own amusement/self-exploration. And the 'Candy Kingdom' actually comprises much or most of the life on earth, has spawned numerous child empires and 'species' like the most recent Lemon people. But they're all still really 'candy', still actually part of 'Glob'.

Remembering the Quantum Leap Comic Book Anonymous 11/10/08(Sat)20:32 No. 20439 [Reply]

File 131809874895.jpg - (473.93KB , 1042x1600 , Quantum Leap 1.jpg )

Fans of Science Fiction over a certain age will remember a television show called Quantum Leap. Quantum Leap was a time travel adventure featuring Scott Bakula (later to star as the captain on Star Trek: Enterprise) and Dean Stockwell (a veteran actor who has been in the business since he was a child in the 1940's, but probably most well-known today for the updated Battlestar Galactica). Bakula played Sam Becket (not the poet!), a super-genius who invented a means of time travel within the span of one's own lifetime (in Becket's case, that meant that periods from 1953 to the then-present were considered fair game), while Stockwell played Al, who remained in Sam's original time but could communicate with Sam through holographic brainwave transmissions. The basic idea was that Sam would trade bodies with someone in the past, living their life for a while. Sam would "leap" out of that time (and trade places with yet another person) after having changed history for the better.

The show lasted for five seasons on NBC. I invite readers to go check it out, but I'm not looking to talk about the television series itself. Like many popular television shows, original Quantum Leap stories were also created for other media. There was a series of paperback books, for example, that ran for several years. For right now, however, I want to talk about the Quantum Leap comic book.

8 of the Best Real-Life Stories Sam Beckett Leapt Into Anonymous 14/08/20(Wed)00:58 No. 23972

In honor of the cult favorite's 25th anniversary, we pose this question: What if Sam Beckett had never traveled in time? The answer: Well, we probably wouldn't have these things...
1. The Trump Tower and the catch phrase "You're fired!"
Beckett definitely had an eye for the future. In 1958 he pointed out a primo piece of New York property to a 12-year-old boy in the episode "It's a Wonderful Leap." Turns out the kid was named Trump, and he went on to become a real estate mogul who later dabbled in reality TV with "The Apprentice." So yes, we have Beckett to thank for the tower... and Omarosa.
2. "Peggy Sue"
Buddy Holly didn't write the lyrics to his hit song "Peggy Sue" — at least not according to the "Quantum Leap" version of history. In the episode "How the Tess Was Won," Beckett hopped into the year 1956 and gave the teen songwriter the lyrics to his breakthrough hit song, which went to the top of the Billboard charts the following year.
3. The moonwalk
Who can forget Motown's iconic 25th Anniversary TV special in 1983, when Michael Jackson debuted his Moonwalk moves? Turns out, the King of Pop learned the moves from Beckett in the episode "Camikazi Kid." Of course, the good doc's time-travel machine may have been a smidge off kilter for this event. In the episode, set on June 6, 1961, a young Michael Jackson is a dancing elementary schooler. But the pop icon was actually born on Aug. 29, 1958, so that would have made him only 2 years old. Oh, well, maybe Beckett gave the dance tips to an MJ impersonator.
4. The King of Rock 'n' Roll
The 1993 episode "Memphis Melody" had Beckett channeling his inner Elvis, before Elvis was even Elvis. The year was 1954. The place: Memphis, where Beckett leapt into the body and mastered the hip swivel of the future King just two days before he was discovered.
5. "The Twist"
Beckett was clearly a dancing king. In the episode "Good Moring Peoria," he traveled to Sept. 9, 1959, transformed into radio DJ Chick Howell and promptly taught Chubby Checker how to do "The Twist." The real Checker made a cameo in the episode, where he asked if he could use the move.
6. A Dealey Plaza debate
The events of Nov. 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, were tragic, and no TV show can change that. But President John F. Kennedy's very real assassination had a slight twist in the "Quantum Leap" two-parter "Lee Harvey Oswald." After Sam Beckett leapt in and out of assassin Lee Harvey Oswald's body, he became Secret Service Agent Clint Hill, who, in this fictional account, saved the life of Jackie Kennedy during the motorcade massacre. The controversial episode went with the theory that there was only one shooter in the assassination, but in an interview with Syfy, Bakula said h Message too long. Click here to view the full text.
