Both Belarussian and Ukrainian nationalism are so misguided. They side with the Western, Latin occupiers (Poland, Lithuanian, Austria-Hungary) and ignore the fact that Belarussians and Ukrainians are part of Rus. They have more in common with the so called "Great Russians" of the Russian Federation than with Westerners.
Why is this? Why do they love their myths so much?
Nationalists lie, and one would be remiss to think that Russian nationalists are immune. But through a purely historical analysis, one can see the holes in the nationalist movements of Ukraine and Belarus. The departure from Rus which is present in both is not only a betrayal of ancestors but a change of identity. Ukrainian and Belarussian nationalism are far more Polish, far more Lithuanian, far more Austrian, than they are Ukrainian and Belarussian.
Ukrainians and Bealrussians are in fact Russians who lived under Western European rule. That is the only difference between them and Muscovy. Why embrace the foreign chains? Why deny one's identity in favor of a foreign force? Why seek to create weak, poor states continually begging for alms from the West? Why not re-unite with the Russian Federation to restore Rus?
ur saying baltic through balkans isnt latin anglo? lewwwl
How would other countries react if Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Sweden were to all conglomerate into a single functioning unit? How pissed would Russia be? Would Germany be equally nervous?
Could this new country Scandinavia not theoretically increase positive production through unification since it provides more incentives for investing into different areas for the wealthy?
Is something like this prohibited by EU, what if they did it anyways would people start embargoing them? Would other countries/regions possibly start doing the same thing elsewhere?

Dane here, a little late to the conversation.
Firstly, while the idea looks good on paper, it doesn't have a snowflake's chance in hell given the current socio-political climate of Scandinavia. That is to say, while your average Dane, Swede and Norwegian can get along just fine, our upper middle classes (the people who are needed to act of the 'glue' of such a union) would be at each others throats, and indeed already are to some degree. You've likely already seen examples of Swedish journalism and debate culture, and likely think it complete madness - so ask yourself if you would ever want to merge your country with people like that?
I will leave you with this small example of a moderate Danish/Swedish televised debate:
literally the only world this ever happens in is the one when london is nuked tomorrow.
Can we stop with all these Polish-Lithuanian memes?
Ali burns in hell as an unrepentant Muslim vermin and those Christians who cry for him and America the most filthy country since Sodom will burn with that bastard.
Ali did nothing in his life, his works were meaningless. He was a filthy black Muslim and Christ hater in life and he now burns in eternal torment.
All the cool kids are trying suicide.
Nah, never been a joiner.

Can anyone recommend me some essential books relating to public history?
Thanks in advance
The only American history book you'll need. A People's History Of The United States by Howard Zinn. Link: http://www.historyisaweapon.com/zinnapeopleshistory.html
It's like going to Versaille and admiring the broom closet.
Do you think that future historians will view isis as a legitimate successor to the ottoman empire some 100+ years from now?
Not really, since the Ottoman Empire's foundation was the Eastern Roman Empire. What connection is there between the Roman Empire, Orthodox Christianity (its successor) and ISIS?
The latter are just fundamentalist fuckwits, who, like all fundamentalist fuckwits, believe in taking some goat herders masturbatory fantasies literally, using 21th century linguistics to interpret the translation of a translation they're using as the basis of their theocracy.
ISIS and Southern Baptists would be the best of friends if only they would stop declaring each other the devil.
I applaud your cynicism, but question your logic.
So is the Islamic invasion of Europe an intentional act being perpetrated by a multitude of interest groups in the Arab world.
Or they are invading Europe because the laws are so lax, Africans are too poor to do so, and Asiatics are in their own realm.
The dude in germany getting beat up by turkish immigrants for wearing a german immigrants got me thinking. Plus this issue started late 90s and just seems to be rolling out of control.

They're even on this very board right now.
And THIS is why we can't have good things?
When did war stop being glorious?
In the past people joined the war with intention of gaining honor.
I reckon it was the Civil war that really ended the glory of war. I think it has something to do when warring countries ceased to respect eachother.
War was never truly glorious to begin with. Generally power-hungry people, with a lot of influence and money, are able to paint war as being glorious. By doing this, they can get more people to use as pawns to fight wars for them.
I think the Crimean war can also be seen as the end of these glory days. Following the war Russia could no longer use religion as an excuse to invade the Balkans, so war is going to be solely for political gain if they choose to invade. Also, the letters and propaganda that returned home from the soldiers/journalists was mostly criticizing the organizations of their respective army, as well as their leadership in general. Most people began to see the atrocities of warfare at this point and knew that war wasn't as romantic as many made it out to be.
Oh boy, your just all over this board now shitting it up with meaningless, out of context, god squad posts.
Can you please confine these shitastic posts to your own topics please?

TL;DR: 1920s Albania forum game. Country is very poor and backward but there's also tons of political intrigue going on, therefore it can be fun. Players can join as whatever: cabinet members, miscellaneous politicians of Muslim or Christian faith, army commanders, tribal chiefs, religious authorities, student radicals, etc.
To quote sign-in thread:
>There are no set rules or list of actions; a player sends a private message to the GM saying what he or she wishes to do that turn, and the GM makes a list of plausible outcomes and subjects them to a random number generator to see which one occurs. There is detailed information on the situation inside the country in various fields of life, from the condition of its armed forces to the state of its cultural facilities. Players will generally be briefed each turn as to how their actions went as well as the situation they are in (e.g. how soldiers under their command are doing, how their efforts to organize people in a region are progressing, and so on.)
This is still ongoing. It is currently 1931.
The same forum also has a French Revolution game GMed by someone else if anyone is interested in that.

at what point in history did you like the united states the most?
any particular reason for your answer?
>If they gained larger support, who knows how WWII would have progressed?
If the Nazis had won Europe and corrupted America, would the Soviet proxies and apparat in the U.S. have been violently purged?
>If the Nazis had won Europe and corrupted America
Since the same fat cats were controlling German as they already controlled USA, it wouldn't have been much different from today. Hitler would have been assassinated and things would have slowly cooled down, with bankers, arms dealers, oil businessmen and such doing what they do. Worst case scenario Europe would be much like Middle East is today, a flaming part of earth that is constant fighting over what part belongs to who, but certainly USA soil would be much the same it is today.
>Since the same fat cats were controlling German as they already controlled USA
Yeah, those joos were in absolute control of Germany.
isn't history a mad thing? it's like look at this crazy shit these people did and they'd do it again and they're doing it now. then its like, 99% chance none of it matters when you die so why would bother? its like, have humans changed at ALL? i mean really have they? I don't think so, it's only our environment that changes, technology and urbanization are the present state but if we were broken up into small, SPACED cities without modern transport and communication or we'd be blowing eachother up to smithereens, prove me wrong
